Bachelor’s Project
The Faculty of Business Administration replaces the bachelor’s thesis in its current form with the so-called bachelor’s project. The change is effective from the academic year 2024/25, and only for students admitted from this academic year on. Students who started their studies earlier are working on their bachelor’s thesis according to their study plan.
The Bachelor’s project, worth 10 ECTS, will be fulfilled in a number of ways according to the student’s preferences and possibilities. These will be:
Therefore, you basically have 4 ways to complete the Bachelor’s Project. Either you choose one of three 10-credit options, or you arrange a short-term internship after returning from the exchange stay.
All information (requirements, assessment criteria, etc.) can be found in the course syllabus. These are published in your study plan in InSIS.
- You can find your specific study plan without logging in as follows:
Study Information – Study Plans – Faculty of Business Administration – E – year in which you started your studies – Browse – Bachelor’s – Browse – B-PE Business Economics and Management – Browse.
- After logging in, you can also access your study plan via: Student Portal – Plan Check.
In the recommended curricula, the Bachelor’s Project is listed in the 6th semester, but courses can be taken in other semesters. However, the courses can also be completed in other semesters. However, the condition of having already completed 100 ECTS applies.
If you choose this option, after returning from abroad and the recognition of the courses by the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), you will enroll in the course 33F315 and prepare a Detailed Report according to the specified template.
You will upload the prepared document to the InSIS Coursework Submission, and you will be assigned a tutor from a specific department according to the professional focus of the courses you have completed. If necessary, the tutor may request additional information. Based on the evaluation of all documents, they will then award the final grade.
SELECTING A COMPANY AND PROCESSING AN INTERNSHIP AT THE FACULTY
Unlike the long-term internship 33F313, which can only be done with a corporate partner of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), you choose and agree on a company or non-profit organization for your internship yourself. After you have pre-arranged the internship, you contact the department that is closest to the focus of the internship and arrange a suitable tutor (the head of the internship on the faculty side). You will inform the tutor of the detailed proposals of your internship, who will assess the suitability for recognition of the internship within the course.
APPROVAL AND ENROLLMENT OF THE COURSE
After a successful agreement with the tutor, you will complete the 3-party Professional Internship Agreement (download below) in cooperation with the company. You will print it out in 3 copies, sign it for the company and for the student, and bring it to the internship tutor. The latter will arrange for the signature at the faculty and, after signing the contract, will hand over 2 copies to you – each party will receive one copy.
In the semester during which you plan to finish the internship, you will register for the extra-semester course 33F314. After registering for the course, you will upload a scan of the Contract to the prepared Coursework Submission of the respective department of the internship subject in InSIS.
THE INTERNSHIP
At the beginning of the internship, the student, tutor, and supervisor meet together (may be online, if necessary) to define the goals of the internship, which are then specified in the .xls document “Evaluation of the professional internship” (download above).
You will get to know the organization, solve practical problems, and, under the guidance of the supervisor, complete the assigned partial work tasks. At the end of the internship, the supervisor will issue a final evaluation (.xls form “Evaluation of the professional internship”), which will be sent to the tutor from an official company email or confirmed and handed over to the student in a sealed envelope with the company’s stamp. The tutor will upload the electronic version of the evaluation of the professional internship to the document server in InSIS.
At the same time, it is also necessary to provide confirmation of the completion of the professional internship, including the scope and number of hours (usually supplied by the HR department of the organization). The organization will send this from an official email or, again, will confirm and hand it over to the student in a sealed envelope with the company’s stamp.
The recommended scope of the internship corresponds to 8 weeks of part-time work. The minimum requirement is 130 hours of work. The internship can also be part of a longer-term work engagement in a selected organization.
FINAL EVALUATION AND DISCUSSION
After enrolling in the course 33F314 and uploading the 3-party contract to the Coursework Submission in InSIS after the internship, you will add 2 additional files:
- A reflection on the course and results of the internship in the scope of 2 standard pages (download above).
- A presentation on the course and results of the professional internship. You will then defend this in front of the committee.
You will register for the date of the debate on the completed internship at the relevant department. The final grade is awarded based on the evaluation of the supervisor of the receiving organization, the reflection, and the discussion.
SELECTION AND APPLICATION
A Company/Business Project is based on solving a practical problem in a selected organization or creating your own business project or part of it.
When preparing the project, also consider the evaluation criteria (see below).
Procedure for selecting a topic for a Corporate Project:
Option A
- Contact companies in your area and communicate to them an offer of help with solving the selected problem (the topic they are currently solving).
- Once you have an idea of the problem you will solve (the company agrees), prepare the assignment project (see template below).
- Reach out to potential tutors at the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) – start with the problem or focus you will solve, and thematically connect it with the subjects and targeting of departments / specific lecturers at FBA.
- After you agree on the project assignment with your tutor, you will enter the assignment together in InSIS.
Option B
- Some tutors list the topics of Corporate Projects in the Jobs Portal in InSIS (Student’s Portal). In the Jobs Portal (Company Overview and Internships tabs), you can find them under the columns of individual departments. If you are interested in the project topic, contact a company in your area with this specific topic. If they express their willingness to cooperate, you will apply for the processing of the work through the Jobs Portal and prepare a project assignment. (In this case, it is not necessary to upload a CV.)
- The tutor will accept the application and the cooperation will continue, or reject it.
Procedure for processing a Business Project:
- If you are planning to start your own business or already run one, prepare a project assignment (you can cover the entire business project or focus on a specific part).
- Contact tutors at the Department of Entrepreneurship or other departments that thematically correspond to the selected part.
- After you and your tutor agree on the project assignment, you will enter the assignment into InSIS together.
APPROVAL AND SUBJECT REGISTRATION
Approval is made by agreeing on the assignment project with the FBA tutor and submitting it to the Jobs Portal. Project approval takes place at least 3 months before submitting the final thesis.
You only register for subject 33F317 in the semester during which you will submit and defend the project. This is an extra-semester course, so you can register for it at any time during the semester.
PROCESSING THE PROJECT
During the project preparation, you are in contact with the FPH tutor and company representatives and consult on the procedure. You prepare a text of approximately 30 pages (the minimum is 20 pages) in accordance with the assessment criteria.
During the project, compare the work and text with the evaluation criteria (see above).
You will upload the final version of the project to the Submission Office for the subject 33F317 in InSIS (to the Coursework submission of the department from which your tutor is). Pay attention to the closing date of the Submission. The dates are the same as the dates for submitting qualification theses (see the Academic Calendar).
FINAL EVALUATION AND DEFENSE
The evaluation is processed based on the criteria by your tutor and a second independent person. We recommend that you propose an evaluator from the company which the project was created for. The condition is that the evaluator may not be a close person (parent, partner, friend, relative, etc.). There are no educational requirements.
In InSIS, as part of the announcement of exam dates for the subject 33F317, the department for which you are working on the project announces the dates of the defenses. Register for the selected date, prepare a short presentation (approx. 10 min.). The presentation concerns the goal of the project, its processing, outputs, and benefits. We also recommend that you prepare your responses to the tutor’s and the second evaluator’s assessment in advance.
After the defense, the result is entered into InSIS. The final grade is awarded based on the defense.
SELECTION AND APPLICATION
A faculty research project can only be completed along researchers and research teams at the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the Prague University of Economics and Business. The listed positions can be found in the Jobs Portal module in InSIS (Student’s Portal). In the Jobs Portal, in the Company Overview and Internship Offers tabs, you will find (in addition to offers for 33F313) research projects listed under the company “Faculty of Business Administration” (the “Detailed Information” button). If the description of the research project interests you, you will apply for the selection procedure by submitting an application.
In the Jobs Portal, you will also find the CV tab. We highly recommend uploading your CV. This increases your chances of being accepted.
APPROVAL AND ENROLLMENT OF A COURSE
If you do not pass the selection procedure, you need to search further.
After successful acceptance, you will define the Research Project Assignment together with your tutor. The tutor will then add the assignment to the given position in the Jobs Portal (and the offered position will be moved to the realized ones).
ATTENTION: You can only enroll in the subject 33F316 in the semester during which you will complete and defend the project. This is an extra-semester course, so you can only enroll in it during the respective semester.
THE INTERNSHIP
Based on the Research Project Assignment, you complete the assigned work tasks. At the end of the internship, the tutor issues a final evaluation (.xls form “Research Project Evaluation”). The tutor uploads the electronic version of the professional internship evaluation to the given position in the Jobs Portal.
The minimum scope of the internship corresponds to at least 260 hours of work.
FINAL EVALUATION AND DEFENSE
For the semester during which you expect to complete the research project, you will enroll in the subject 33F316. You will then upload 2 files to the Submission Office:
- A reflection and description of the project progress in a minimum scope of 4 standard pages (for download, see above)
- A presentation on the progress and results of the internship. You will then present this to the committee.
You will register for the defense date at the relevant department. The defense takes place before a two-member committee, one of which is usually the project tutor. The final grade is awarded based on the evaluation of the research project, reflection, presentation, and subsequent discussion.
SELECTION AND APPLICATION
Long-term internships can only be completed with a corporate partner of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA). The listed positions can be found in the Jobs Portal module in InSIS (Student Portal – My College tab). In the Jobs Portal, in the Company Overview and Internship Offers tabs, you will find everything you need from both companies for long-term internships and departments and other FPH departments for research and business projects (Detailed Information button). If you are interested in the internship, you will apply for the selection procedure by submitting an application.
In the Jobs Portal, you will also find the CV tab. We highly recommend uploading your CV. This increases your chances of being accepted.
APPROVAL AND ENROLLMENT OF A COURSE
If you do not pass the selection procedure, you need to look further.
After successfully accepting the internship, you will complete a 3-party Professional Internship Contract in cooperation with the company (download below). You will print it out in 3 copies, have it signed for the company and for yourself, and bring it to the internship tutor. He will arrange for the signature at the faculty internally and, after signing the contract, will hand over 2 copies to you, ie, each party will receive one copy. After signing the contract, the tutor will accept the internship in the Jobs Portal (and the offered position will be moved to the realized ones).
ATTENTION: You will only register for the subject 33F313 in the semester during which you will complete and defend the project. This is an extra-semester course, so you can only register for it during the given semester. However, you will be in contact with the tutor throughout the duration of the internship.
THE INTERNSHIP
At the beginning of the internship, the student, tutor, and supervisor meet together (may be online, if necessary) to define the internship goals, which are then specified in the .xls document “Evaluation of professional internship”.
You will get to know the organization, solve practical problems, and, under the guidance of the supervisor, complete assigned work tasks. During the internship, you must also be in contact with the tutor. Approximately halfway through the internship, you are required to arrange a joint review meeting between the tutor and supervisor (can be online), where the ongoing results of the internship are discussed.
At the end of the internship, the supervisor issues a final evaluation (.xls form “Evaluation of professional internship”, download above), which he sends to the tutor from his official work email or, after confirming it, hands it over to the student in a sealed envelope with the company’s stamp. The tutor uploads the electronic version of the evaluation of the professional internship to the given position in the Jobs Portal.
The minimum scope of the internship corresponds to at least 260 hours of work. The internship may be part of a more comprehensive trainee program of the company.
FINAL EVALUATION AND DEFENSE
For the semester during which you expect to complete the internship, you will enroll in the subject 33F313. You will then upload 2 files to the Coursework Submission:
- A reflection on the course and results of the internship, 2 standard pages long (see above for download).
- A presentation on the course and results of the professional internship. You will then defend this before a committee.
You will register for the defense date at the relevant department. The defense takes place before a two-member committee, one of whom is usually the internship tutor. The final grade is awarded based on the defense of the professional internship, taking into account the supervisor’s assessment and the reflection.
